Future Child

Foto: Athanasios Vryonis/privat

Sometimes, when I look at you
I see our future child
With traits and lines in unity
The perfect you and I
I see the child you used to be
the You I never knew
And in between, my childhood me
the best of who am I.

Sometimes, when you touch my breast
I feel a certain rush
A breath from someone else's lips
so real and close to heart
I see the spirit of a soul
and hear a baby cry
and then I see you hold it close
and kiss the teardrops dry.

Sometimes, when you hold my hand
or kiss my blushing cheek
I sense a baby's tender touch
so strange, but still so real
I see the proud and happy glance
of parenthood and care
An everlasting flame of love,
a union always there.

Sometimes, when I look at you
I wish it could be true
The greatest gift that life can give
The essence of us two
I see a glimpse of could-have-beens
so vivid, and yet wild
And although you might never be,
I love you, future child.
